According to ESPN.com, the NBA approved Gilbert Arenas’s request to change his number from the infamous 00 to 6.
After receiving a season-ending suspension for having guns in his locker, changing his number will surely make people forget the past. Probably not, but you have to give the man credit for coming up with an idea better than storing guns in his locker.
Or maybe it’s not a better idea. Will LeBron and Arenas duke it out for the rights to big 6, or does no one actually care what number criminals wear on the back of their jerseys?
No matter what number he wears or how good he is, Arenas will be known for the number 47. AK47.

NBA commissioner David Stern suspended Washington Wizards guards Gilbert Arenas and for the remainder of the NBA season Wednesday, and ESPN.com learned that Arenas has agreed not to appeal the punishment.
Stern’s disciplinary actions were announced Wednesday afternoon after Arenas met face-to-face with Stern for the first time since the gun incident that put Arenas’ future with the Wizards in doubt.
The Washington Post first reported the length of the Arenas suspension, and a source with knowledge of the meeting told ESPN.com that Arenas told Stern that he expected and deserved to be suspended for the rest of the season.
Another source divulged to ESPN that Crittenton has not yet agreed to accept the suspension and that his counsel and the players union are in discussions on how they might challenge it.

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas has been charged with a felony in connection with last month’s locker room confrontation with a teammate.
But, Arenas has reached a plea agreement that would result in little or no jail time, several sources close to the case told The Washington Post. The newspaper had reported if convicted, Arenas could face a maximum five years in jail and a fine.
Arenas is expected to plead guilty Friday afternoon before D.C. Superior Court Judge Robert E. Morin, The Post reported. His court appearance is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET.
Arenas, who last week was suspended indefinitely without pay by NBA commissioner David Stern, was charged with carrying a pistol without a license outside a home or business.
The charges were filed in D.C. Superior Court in an “information,” a document that generally signals a plea deal. The charge came directly from prosecutors and not in the form of an indictment.
“We are aware of the charge filed against Gilbert Arenas today and will continue to follow the ongoing legal process very carefully,” the Wizards said in a statement issued Thursday. “We will also continue to cooperate fully with the proper authorities and the NBA.”

Washington Wizards fans have long waited to find out what version of Gilbert Arenas they can expect to see this season. In the sampling offered up by the former three-time All-Star during Tuesday night’s 101-92 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies to open the preseason, Arenas took a step toward answering those questions.
Is he healthy? After three knee surgeries on his left knee in two years and a summer with famed athletic trainer Tim Grover in Chicago, the answer appears to be yes.
Can he be an effective floor general running Flip Saunders’ offense? Judging by early indications, yes. Arenas assisted on the Wizards’ first seven baskets and went on to record 10 assists.
Can he be the Arenas of old, the MVP candidate who averaged 27.7 points a game from 2004 to 2007? That’s still to be determined.
Arenas showed no hitches as he showed great acceleration and leaping ability and drove past defenders at will. And his court vision was as keen as it ever was as he wove through defenders and still managed to find his teammates. But Arenas hardly looked for his own shot, taking just five attempts. He made only one of them and struggled from the foul line as well, going 3-for-9.
